Mind-blowingly beautiful. The imagery alone nearly made me cry.. I was just staring at all the details, all the colours, all of it and thinking “this is what people are capable of doing, people are amazing, oh wow”.

There were some moments when I found myself a bit bored, but I can’t really explain it. Mostly I just enjoyed the ride and loved the fuck out of Leo and Tobey. They are amazing.

The ending.. I surprised myself a bit with all my bawling. At first I was like “a bit of a tear”, next I noticed I could actually see the reflection of the stream of tears on the inside of my 3D glasses. I don’t know how that happened. Massive Gatsby feels, they just caught me by surprise.

Ugh, it seems I can’t write a movie review without turning into a hysterical fangirl. So I’ll just leave this here with my warmest of recommendations.

FINALLY. I HAVE SEEN IT. We drove 800 kilometres to see this in a special screening, but it was so worth it.

(Some small spoilers, tread carefully if you haven’t seen it yet.)

I’d be a bit embarrassed, really, if you had any idea how frustrated I truly was over seeing this movie before it was spoiled to me on the internet. (Well, if you’re read all my rants about it, then you know. It got a little too far, I admit..)

I expected so much and I got even more. It was way better than the first Trek. I sat in my chair, squeezing the life out of my own hands and arms and popcorn buckets and whatever I could get a hold on. At times I realised I was breathing way too shallow & quick while flailing my arms around just because people were falling and fighting and shooting and it was all so visually mind-blowing.

I got sucked in so badly I was having trouble finding my way out.

The whole “shooting dudes out of a hole into space” scene.. I wanted to scream. Beautiful, in all its nerve-wrecking excitement. That scene between Spock and Kirk. Ugh, waterworks. A volcano, dude! The people of the red planet! So many details I can’t even remember right now as I’m ranting on.

And then, shit:

This dude right here in the picture, you can’t possibly understand how excited I was about this movie for him. I’m talking proud mama feels of a grown-ass man. I’m talking freaking out about it for him.

He’s the biggest thing for me, ever, out of all the actors I’ve ever adored and I couldn’t wait to see how his first ever big Hollywood role was gonna play out. And he did so good he did so gooood. He’s been getting spaceshiploads of praise for his work from everyone: the critics, the fellow cast members, the fans.. and the humble silly thing he is, he can just barely stomach it.

So yeah. I can’t really be 100% objective about this film, since there’s the Batch factor and since I’ve totally fallen in love with the whole cast but.. who cares? It’s my blog and my fangirl life and I LOVE WHAT I WANT!

Going to see this again this Sunday. Happy, happy me. Thank you J.J. for making me a happy, happy girl. Ugh!

Well shiver me timbers! I’ve seen this movie before just a few months ago, but I couldn’t find any comments about it in my blog. So here goes - this one’s for both of the viewings.

I LOVED IT MORE THAN I THOUGHT I WOULD. Really! What a wonderful, funny cast (just check out the gag reel) and all sorts of likable things. I’ve never been a Trekkie but I’ve seen a lot of the old stuff. Who hasn’t? But for some reason it took me a while to check out J.J.’s doings.

Well, Mr. Abrams, nicely done. I’m very entertained. No deeper analysis here as I wouldn’t deep-analyze a good hamburger either. Very enjoyable fast food for dem brainzz.

Oh, and casting Zachary Quinto? Bravo. Best casting I’ve seen in a long while.

The Cosmonaut is a crowdfunded movie by Nicolás Alcalá. It was so much more than I expected. Obviously, when you hear the word “sci-fi”, you’ll expect something more spacey-wacey and action-filled. Something less organic, something less.. well, the only word that comes to mind is “beautiful”.

The cinematography was surprisingly unique and pretty, and the story complex enough to leave you just a little bit confused & puzzled. I pretty much enjoyed all the actors’ performances as well and might have a little crush on both main dudes. Oops, did I say that out loud?

Anyway. Guess what’s the best thing about this film? Lemme tell you: it’s now downloadable for free HERE. That’s a pretty decent price for a film like this.

A three ep miniseries. I’ve been having a Tennant situation lately, ok? So I had to watch this one as well, even though I’m not that much into political thrillers and dramas and whatnots.

But I must say.. it was a rather nice watch. If not for anything else, then for David’s immaculate performance.. once again.

STAR TREK INTO DARKNESS - “I Allow It”

Well what the hell - after watching this for like 127 times I guess it should be on my movie blog as well. It’s not a long clip, but Benedict’s delivery (once again) is something that blows my mind completely.

I really don’t envy Mr. Pine here, trying to reach his level.

And yes, my fangirl might be showing, but there are plenty of reasons why I am one to begin with - and this is a great example of those reasons.

This eight-part crime show gripped me tight straight away and didn’t let go until the very emotional last seconds. Tennant and Colman are mind-blowingly good and putting them together in this was one of the best casting decisions ever.

Well, most of the casting decisions were perfect. I can’t think of one actor I would’ve replaced with someone else.

Other stuff I liked: the cinematography (someone likes their backlight very much!), the scenery, the characters.. but especially the fact that this might be getting a second season.

Ben Kingsley is absolutely amazing and no-one can convince me otherwise.

I love Gwyneth, I love Rebecca. I love everyone.

See, I can’t even form a coherent thought. Everything I wanna say about Iron Man 3 sounds suspiciously like “I loved it” or “I love RDJ”. So no point in repeating these two sentences, I think you all get it by now.

So yes, go see it. And afterwards, come straight home and find some interviews RDJ & Gwyneth did while promoting their humble rumble of a movie. YouTube, dude.

PS: A secret handshake to all the people who stayed behind with our group until after the (loo-ooo-ooong) credits to see that thing that followed.

I didn’t have great expectations, somehow. I was just prepared to see yet another Tom Cruice sci-fi flick and be done with it.

Yes, they actually spelled his name like that in a Finnish tv commercial for the movie, can you believe it?!

But wow, it was actually amazing. Ok, fine, there were a bunch of things that have been done before, but if you ignore that, you’ll get a pretty decent movie experience. Good stuff. Might have to see this again sometime.

(I wrote about this before, but I’m re-visiting the subject. A bit more calm and collected this time, but not any less frustrated.)

Star Trek Into Darkness release dates:

UK (“official” premiere) May 2nd
Finland (and a bunch of other countries) June 5th.

Now, how is this in any way smart? Someone explain. I haven’t been able to wrap my head around it. WHY is it wise to make one of the oldest, biggest, most enthusiastic fandom wait when there definitely aren’t any technical reasons for it?

I might be wrong, but I think I’m right when I say this is also an extremely tech-savvy bunch of people who know how to download a movie if they aren’t allowed to pay to see it on big screen. Most of us are also very active on social media.

Let’s take a moment to think about this combination of facts.

Sure, you might save a few pennies in promotion when the rest of the world takes care of the buzz for you, but have you considered all this negative buzz (like this very writing) that the delay causes? I don’t think I’m the only one upset. I don’t think I’m the only one who will download the movie if given the chance, either.

And why is it important to see it with the rest of the world? Because sharing the experience with other fans makes the whole movie experience ten times better. The bigger the fandom, the bigger the party. An enthusiastic fandom can be this incredible, powerful, mind-blowing, inspiring, creative entity and it’s a blessing to be a part of such thing.

I know this might be a hard thing to understand for someone who isn’t part of any fandom like this, but hey, just throw me an e-mail and I can try and explain it to you. It will take days but I will try. (And if you still don’t get it, you should at least take my word for it: when you’re about to release something like a Star Trek movie, don’t mess it up with simple things like the release dates.)

Anyway. That good stuff I’m talking about here, everything the fandom creates and talks about after a film is released? It will all be long gone by June - well, not gone, but it’ll be as old as Shakespeare. Fans move on to other things. They’ve discussed it, they’ve dealt with it. The party’s over. It’ll be crickets and tumbleweed for those who are patient enough to wait until June.

And if that’s not reason enough for you, here’s one more: I’m not a big friend of spoilers either, so I’d have to stay off the internet and away from the media to avoid them. But how can I? I work in the bloody media. Part of my job is to follow these things, and it’s also my dearest hobby.

I will be crying bloody bitter fangirl tears as I watch a huge movie like this from my tiny computer screen, but I see no other choice. This.. instead of seeing it in time, tweeting about it, blogging about it, updating my damn Facebook status seven times for 800 friends & followers and forcing my best friends to see it three times (no, wait, I wouldn’t have to force them - they’d be there because they too are fans.)

So if anyone has an explanation for delays like this, please enlighten me. Because wow, I’m all out of ideas. I just don’t get it.

If we don’t count the so called real life and only look at the stuff related to being a movie fan, Star Trek Into Darkness certainly tops my list of Biggest Crisis of 2013.
